I can see by the responses posted that this is a very controversial issue.
I wonder if everyone has forgotten our Pre-K Guidelines? I know that it isn't a perfect document, but it is a lot better than what could be forced on preschoolers.
I have been in the ECE field for many years and have received my BA in Child Development, also. I really believe that if we can give the document that we want to have rather than have someone else mandate to us what they think that we need, it will be better in the long run. We won't have to complain about what is required. We just have to make sure that "developmentally appropriate" is the main focus. We, ECE educators, have to be sure that everyone in the field, or not in the field, is on the same page: the child's learning needs come first.
