I heard you speak at the Public Policy Symposium in April, and I wanted to thank you.
I have a question about the proposal of parenting. How are the parents going to be made to do this, especially if they feel that they are doing what they think they should?
The State Preschool/Head Start program I work in has monthly parent meetings that are supposed to informative: health issues, parenting, developmental issues, etc. We are lucky to get more than 3 parents to attend. The other teachers and I have tried to stress the importance of parent participation in the child's school, this leads to school success. I think that most of the parents in the program did not have school success themselves!
Some of these parents have too much to do and others don't have a clue of what they need to do, they are on drugs or uneducated.
I have a feeling that this will be a LONG,long term project.
