Universal Preschool has me feeling both encouraged and concerned.
I am pleased the State of California is willing to formally recognize the importance of early childhood on human development, and how a high quality preschool experience can help children to successfully learn later in an academic classroom.

My concern is that there is currently no concrete definition of the standards curricula, and that will determine whether I advocate for or against Universal Preschool.

I have been an Early Childhood Educator for 14 years, my BA is in Child Development and I hold a State of California Director Mentor Certificate. I would like to think that the curricula will be informed by the opinions of caregivers like me who have actually worked with children ages 0 - 5, and will not be determined solely by elementary educators who have an idea of what they want a 5 year old child to know before entering a kindergarten classroom.
