Re: Test Out

Similarly, it is ridiculous to require excessive student teaching (slavery) of individuals that demonstrate classroom management with a prior work history. I am thinking of preschool teachers who have spent a decade or longer handling 10 - 14 students, lesson plans, and communicating effectively with parents about their children's development, that can't then simply step into an academic classroom as a credentialed teacher if they can prove (test-out) mastery of the subject and pass the CBEST/MSAT?

Re: training
Knowledge of the subject is essential, but so is the ability to teach (share your knowledge of the subject through effective communication and classroom management).

As a requirement of acceptance in a teacher credentialing program, potential teachers would need to demonstrate 30 hours of classroom observation with approved master teachers; as important a requirement as the MSAT or CBEST. That would weed out a lot of the wanna-bes that think they're gonna be Mr. Chips, but can't stomach the reality of the classroom.
