I'm sure Phil highlights a difficulty many of us face, i.e., the effective use of technology that may be available but not convenient to use. One solution we've discovered, which may already be familiar to our Workforce Dialog participants, involves Learning Communities, two or more classes organized around a theme that builds a community among students, teachers, and their disciplines so that they are able to perceive the relationships or connections among various subjects. The idea is to form creative connections across disciplines and to encourage innovative thinking processes. We've discovered that students enrolled in technology skills classes with other Learning Community classes, such as Chemistry or ESL, respond eagerly and effectively to appeals for help with technology-related problems, er rather, challenges.
