RE: BUILDING ON OUR TENET FOR THE LEARNER
In my previous messages I have spoken to the issue of the 'grounding tenet' and my sense that more than 'inspire' we need to 'respond to' the natural functioning of our human 'instinct' for learning. Here I would like to raise a caution about the potential for being mislead by the concepts of 'multiple intelligences' and 'learning styles'. Its not that both concepts don't have value both they are both approximating models that can result in further distancing ourselves from the actual reality of a child. We must be careful to avoid everywhere possible 'seeing and relating to our children through a theoretical lens'. Rather than teaching to a 'profile' (no matter which model its based on), I suggest we must make the resources of all modes of learning available to each learner and help them learn to find the right resources for themselves by learning to ever better differentiate and dismabiguate their own interior learning needs. I can elaborate on this in much greater detail if you are interested... David Boulton http://www.implicity.com |
