  • Topic: Background

The State of California cannot make parents demonstrate an interest in the welfare of their children, and reinventing the wheel by providing and funding additional Parent Education forums only adds unnecessary costs to our public school systems.

Having lived in seven counties in the State of California, I can reasonably assert that Parent Education is already available through county and local federally funded programs and private entities. I have been at many free workshops with excellent speakers and bilingual interpretation where the audience numbered less than ten.

I am not advocating for the dissolution of these programs, I am only suggesting that the State not take it upon itself to fund and provide what already exists and is not used. Surely each district and cooperate with local agencies to see what, if any, resources are already available. I strongly suggest that agencies communicate with each other to ensure that duplication of services and workshops is not a problem.

Parents cannot be forced to avail themselves of this information and these services. (More's the pity.)
