I have read many ideas on the local classroom environment and how it affects student outcomes. Nowhere have I read about the adult learner and his or her need for an environment that is near the home, small enough for the student to not feel lost on a hugh campus, and is geared for his or her particular educational needs. If schoolage children of recent immigrants are to succeed in the classroom, their parents need to be ahead of them on the learning curve. Adult schools bridge the gap between the K-12 learner and his parents.
