  • Topic: Student Learning

As Eleanore Lee pointed out, critical thinking is one of the
most important skills citizens in a democracy need to learn.
The CAMP Executive summary states that one goal of public
education should be that all students

"Be provided with sufficient information regarding
educational, economic, social, and political options to be
able to make informed choices for his or her future."

This should be modified to read:

"Be provided with sufficient SKILLS TO SEEK OUT AND
CRITICALLY EVALUATE information regarding educational,
social, and political options to be able to make informed
choices for his or her future."

As the Italian poet Petrarch said, "A child's mind is not a
vessel to be filled, but a fire to be ignited."
