I believe that we need to review the research and then plan our education programs based real information and needs at each of the child's development levels.
We need to focus on where children develop and then modify the educational system to meet those needs. Example: We found that reading problems need to be identified before 2nd grade in order to have a chance to correct those deficiencies completely. Unfortunately, many teacher education programs and school districts view K-2 to be something that anybody can do, usually as a last resort, if a teacher cannot be placed in another grade level.
We should seriously consider placing our BEST educators with the strongest support in the k-2 levels. These levels do the mental wiring for future learning and find the problems that need the extra remediation. The rest of the child's life-long educational program is based on the foundation provided by the early educational programs.
