  • Topic: Background

My hope is that the Master Plan will stimulate a rebirth of
education quality that has seemed to drain away over the
last 30 years. Our faciliities need to be refurbished, our
teachers should be prepared to teach and guide in a
stimulating and relevant manner, they need to be paid a
descent wage and we need to have high expectations for
their performance.

I'd like the Plan to reflect some of the successful strategies
business has used to keep their employees current and
flexible with the changing times. I'd like to see a coming
together of the many and often fractured interests of the
Governor's office, the CDE, the State Board of Education so
that they can all work toward a goal of excellence for
California's students. California education can be much
more than it is.

This Dialogue is a good step toward helping people know
about what is going on in education. It would have be better
if it had occured before the plan was written. I would like to
see more authentic efforts to involve, hear and respond to
the public throughout the development of plans like this that
are so important to every citizen.
