Background
Information Renaissance networking projects have been designed with
a few basic goals in mind:
- Performance. All of our projects
have taken the performance of a local area network and sought
to extend it to larger geographic areas. Through this approach
we have tried to bring the capabilities of software developed
for local area networks and make it available to groups
distributed around a building or across a city.
- Sustainability. Although our
performance goals often lead us to select newly-developed hardware,
we are always looking for hardware that supports evolving
industry standards, so that each installation will have a
long service lifetime.
- Interoperability. By selecting
standards-based components, we are able to build networks
that use components from multiple vendors. This helps keep
costs low and frees our users from the vagaries of the market.
