1. Buying and maintaining equipment is always a major consideration. Buying a computer is often weighed against the cost of other items. Maintaining and upgrading them is almost as expensive as buying a new one. In school, these costs must be weighed against updating text books or buying overhead projectors. In the public library it sometimes come down to deciding between buying children's books and reference books or buying software. Every time a new program comes out, it seems to require a computer upgrade. I agree with BAH that it seems to be easier to get money to initially buy computers then to get money to maintain and upgrade them. After you have one or two, it also seems difficult to get funding for more. 2. Schools seem to have better access to some things, while libraries seem to have broader access. In the borough in which I live, the school district, the parochial school, and the library will be linked together. I still have serious concerns about the accessibility of some sites. While I know we cannot stop abuse, I am concerned about doing as much as we can to prevent it. 3168
