Online Discussions/Breakout Sessions
Research Topics
How to Participate
- Who takes part
- The online discussions are open to all registered conference
participants. If you have received an invitation to the conference
and not yet registered, please do
so now.
- How to join one of the online discussions
- The conference registration form contains a section where
you can select which of the online discussions you would like
to join. One of these selections should correspond to the
breakout session that you plan to attend at the conference.
- How to change your choice of online discussions
- Please write to conf@info-ren.org for
any changes you wish to make in the information originally entered
on your conference registration form.
Role of the Moderators and Facilitators
- Who are the moderators?
- Each online discussion is moderated by a Principal Investigator
and a Practitioner. The names of these moderators are listed
in the desriptions of the online discussions given below.
- What do the moderators do?
- The moderators set the direction of each online discussion.
Regular postings from the moderators will suggest topics for
the current week's discussion. If the discussion gets too
scattered, the moderators will help restore a focus. At the
end of the online discussion the moderators will prepare a
brief summary for distribution at the conference. This summary
will form the basis for face-to-face discussions in the conference
breakout sessions.
- Do the moderators edit submitted messages?
- The mailing lists for the online discussions have been set up
as closed mailing lists. This means that it is not possible
to subscribe to the mailing list without permission. Furthermore,
it is not possible to post messages to these mailing lists unless
you are a subscriber. Hence participation in the online discussions
is effectively limited to conference invitees. Beyond this
restriction, there are no checks applied to incoming messages.
Moderators do not screen incoming mail but only direct the online
discussions through their own participation.
- Who are the facilitators?
- Information Renaissance personnel will assist the moderators
by maintaining the mailing lists and by talking to individual
participants. You will probably receive personal e-mail from the
facilitators in the course of the online discussion. Please let
them know if you have any suggestions on the conduct of these
discussions. You can reach the facilitators by electronic mail at
facilitators@info-ren.org.
