Kam Matray from Monterey, CA - hello, again=8A In brief - I facilitate the R&D group for the Monterey Peninsula Unified School District. I hesitate to use head, direct, lead etc. because so much of our work is undertaken with many other agencies; in this kind of milieu "leadership" takes on a different quality. (For that matter collaborative leadership takes on a different quality when using networking tools to "manage" something.) I've been plugged into educ tech since way back as a practitioner, trainer, manager, and instructor. Among my more practical experiences was directing one of California's five "Model Technology Schools" projects for its duration from 1985-93. Currently I serve also as PI for the collaborative group that is building one of the "virtual field trip" prototypes in the =8Afrom Abyss to Andromeda series. Virtual Canyon is a prototype development project hopefully to be completed in September 1997. The intent is to build an interactive learning system for students in grades K-12. Here students they can work on real-life research projects where they select and manipulate online tools to explore the Monterey Canyon, access video footage from a research institute's remotely operated vehicle (ROV), conduct research projects in a virtual canyon and virtual research lab, and post the methods and findings of their research in a gallery on the web for other students to review and utilize in subsequent research (a form of collaborative learning in the long term, perhaps). Postings might take the form of a research paper, drawing, poetry, story, song or=8A This reiterative process depends upon the real world of science research, its willingness to share its data sests, and the real world of human questioning and curiosity. >Melanie, Frank, Jillaine, Jim, et al., > > Thanks for the contributions.
