As Janet Schofield promised would be offered this week, I would like to suggest an addition to our list of conversation topics. This is a combination of item #3 from Janet's original post, > 3. What are appropriate and practical measures of both success and > problems in technology and education projects? Are there any > characteristics of such measures that can be delineated, even if the > specific measures themselves must necessarily vary with the specific > goal of the project? and Mavis' comments on equity: > Should equity be a factor for consideration when these goals are > brought into focus? and on student outcomes: > Criteria for evaluators to measure the knowledge the students are > displaying... Two of the suggested indicators of success in implementing technology in education are increased equity and increased student learning. This suggests several questions: 1. Are these two indicators the most important indicators of success or are there other potential impacts of technology use in education which are equally important? 2. What are the best ways of measuring such impacts? 3. What are the problems inherent in measuring these impacts? Please share your thoughts on these questions, and any experiences you may have had in identifying or trying to measure indicators of success for your projects. Of course, you should also feel free to continue adding to any of the other threads to our conversation. I look forward to reading your posts. Larisa Naples
