CK:P Network Architecture
There are three components to the CK:P network
architecture:
- Local Area Networks. LAN architecture typically
involves a 10-base-T 10 Megabit Ethernet with
user devices for
students and teachers in each school classroom. A site
server provides
information services for the school, including e-mail for everyone in
the school and a World Wide Web server for the publication of
school projects and individual activities.
- Metropolitan Area Networks. School sites are
linked to the project's central site by a number of different
connectivity options. The goal is to provide bandwidth adequate
for all school needs at the lowest possible cost. A survey of the
stages of
Internet connectivity available to CK:P users
is available online.
- Wide Area Networks. The project's central site
provides connectivity to the global Internet.
