Anna M. Rappaport

Anna M. Rappaport, F.S.A., M.A.A.A. is a Principal with William M. Mercer, Inc. and Immediate Past President of the Society of Actuaries. She has participated in the Social Security debate as a volunteer for and representative of the American Academy of Actuaries in forums organized by Americans Discuss Social Security. In January, 1999, Americans Discuss Social Security organized a major teleconference on What Every Woman Should Know About Social Security. She served as the Academy representative there and had the role of explaining options and serving as the technical expert. She feels strongly that the issues surrounding women need to be carefully evaluated as part of the debate.

Her business activity for William M. Mercer, Inc. is consulting with large employers and organizations on issues around the strategy for and management of retirement benefits. She focuses on the total retirement package. She completed 35 years as a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in 1998. She has an MBA from the University of Chicago. She is an active member and volunteer for the Society of Actuaries and the American Academy of Actuaries. In that work she has sought to work with the actuarial profession to help focus on using her actuarial perspective to design and focus on better solutions for aging citizens. She is a member of the National Academy of Social Insurance, the Pension Research Council, the Steering Committee of the National Academy for an Aging Society, the Board of the Chicago Network, and the Board of the Metropolitan Chicago Information Center.
