Dr. Kilolo Kijakazi is a senior policy analyst in the Income Security Division at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. The Center is an independent, nonprofit organization that conducts policy analysis and research on issues concerning low- and moderate-income individuals and families. Dr. Kijakazi specializes in Social Security and was selected to participate on a panel for the White House Conference on Social Security in December 1998. She has also given testimony before Congressional committees and participated on a panel for the Democratic Congressional Caucus on issues facing Social Security. She has written a number of papers for the Center that analyze the impact of social security reform proposals on the program, beneficiaries, workers and the federal budget. Before coming to the Center, she worked at the Food and Nutrition Service, of the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a program analyst. There she served as a project officer for research evaluations concerning welfare reform, noncustodial parents, food access, and electronic benefit transfer systems. Dr. Kijakazi also served as a policy analyst at the National Urban League where she had responsibility for welfare reform, employment, education and housing. She earned her Ph.D. in public policy from the George Washington University and worked as a research fellow while there. Her dissertation, African-American Economic Development and Small Business Ownership, was published as a book in September 1997 by Garland Publishing, Inc. She also holds a Master's of Social Work from Howard University and a bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton. |
