		The Dual Purpose of Social Security


Social Security should serve the dual purpose of insurance and
retirement coverage.  While some workers would be able to obtain
affordable insurance coverage in the private market others would
not.  Please see my response to Javiar Jimenez that addresses the
shortcomings of privatizing either the insurance or retirement
components of Social Security.
