RE: New Proposals

Representatives Kolbe and Stenholm should certainly be commended for again
proposing a plan to address Social Security's long-term solvency problems.
It is certainly refreshing to see Members of Congress work across party
lines to craft viable reform options.

The Kolbe/Stenholm plan will be helpful to the Ways and Means Committee and
everyone who is interested in Social Security's future in that it provides
yet another range of options for reform.  As with every serious proposal,
the Kolbe/Stenholm plan should be reviewed and evaluated on its merits.  As
the process moves forward, I am hopeful that this will be the case.
