RE: What "values" created the existing system?


Obviously the writer does not understand life expectancy nor how it is calculated. Otherwise they would not have refered to raising the retirement age to keep up with life exepctancy.

As for not being a ponzi scheme, you are incorrect. Aponzi Scheme is where a person suckers in few first and in order to continue to pay out promised results, needs to ever increase the number who contribute. Social Security when started had less than 50% of the work force enrolled. It was not until the mid 50's when OASI began to run large deficits that they began to raise taxes, base and yes enroll more workers. By the end of hte 60's they had enrolled just about everyone they could and the result were large tax increases.
