052199: I have been in the stock market for 52 years and have done well by it. however it takes many years along with good judgement and good luck to become a success in investing. I don't believe that the average investment potfolio would amount to much as retirerment income. There are far to many hazards on this road. who is to guide these investors? It often reminds me of any and all gambles.
The present ss is doing quite well and with some attention to it, it could be great.
My father, a small town pharmcist with his own business was well invested when the big one hit. Not a pleasant situation for a man with a wife and 6 children. He didn't hump off the 2nd avenue bridge, but he thought about it for some time.
