Subject: Questions: General Federal Tax Funding of a Transition?
Dear Members of Congress:
Thank you sincerely for taking the time to participate in this important process of Social Security reform. Your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.
The questions I have are as follows:
1. Do you agree that Social Security should move as closely as possible to become a fully funded system instead of a pay as you go system?
2. If you agree, why must the burden of paying current Social Security benefits be borne solely by regressive payroll taxes on the wages of labor alone?
3. And, overall, why shouldn't progressive general federal taxes be used to fund the transition to a fully funded system?
Respectfully,
