>From my library discussion group of 15 Seniors in Waterford, MI,
comes the concern that allowing 2% of Social Security tax to be
privately invested could open the door to future privatization of
the entire SS program. While recognizing that the Kolbe-Stenholm
bill is a compromise effort, this group values most the safety
net feature of SS and also unanimously agrees that whatever
reform becomes law should be mandatory. Human nature has not
demonstrated that, left on their own, people will save enough for
their retirement years.
