  • X-topic: Choice 2

We are now ready to give our full consideration to Choice 2: Rein in Lobbyists and Politicians.

Choice 2 supporters see campaign finance reform as being too narrowly focused. They point to the billions of dollars spent lobbying candidates as the real problem. Furthermore, they argue that campaign finance reform will only redirect money into lobbying efforts and do little to eliminate the influence that it might have on politicians.

Choice 2 supporters also envision a larger role for the citizens in crafting or repealing laws through ballot initiatives and "firing" legislators through the recall process.

As we move through this choice, try to think about it from a wide range of perspectives and to imagine how others might view this choice. What is it about this choice that addresses your deepest concerns? What is it about this choice that worries you or makes you hesitant to adopt it completely?
