Yes, television is a major campaign cost. Another one is the professional staff of campaign managers considered indispensible to successful campaigns. After all, it takes marketing strategy to sell a candidate, doesn't it? I've been looking at the ads in the California Journal, a magazine dealing with political news in my state. Many of these ads are to enlist candidates to employ their services. I understand these services are becoming more and more expensive since they include polling, focus groups, (dirty tricks!) etc. etc. Where have the volunteers who used to manage campaigns gone? Isn't this part of the commercialization that characterizes our lives today?
