  • X-topic: Choice 1

I am a Korean, female student, and I come from a family with little political background and wealth. Therefore, I feel that it is unfair and unequal for certain wealthy candidates with many connections to gain advantages just from his/her background. It is rare to find asians winning or even running for the senate office. Certain disparities can be found between many minority/unwealthy candidates and Wealthy, well-to-do candidates. I feel, in order to have a well-represented nation, that we must work towards breaking down the walls of this disparity. It is important for candidates to be given equal opportunity to reach their goals and campaigns to the people. It seems that a lot of the candidates are chosen or voted because their message has been sent to a lot of people. In the same way, candidates who do not have enough to get their message across to the people are most likely to not be voted. The choice of our leaders should not be based on money or rather the soft money that one can obtain from his/her connections. Our leaders should be chosen on their character and ability. I feel that a candidate like Corzine of New Jersey, who spent $60 million of his own money, is a ridiculous case. Imagine what that money could have done. Who it could have saved/helped.What it could have accomplished. There must be better and equal methods of showing a candidate's stance & campaign!
