Hello,
This attachment is to inform your federal agency and many others that the residents of our community are being duped by the Rocky Mountain Arsenal, and placing our resident health and safety in jeopardy.
We are asking for a complete and open investigation.
Respectfully,

Rocky Mountain Arsenal
Restoration Advisory Board
To: Montebello/Gateway/Green Valley Ranch Residents
From: Lee Kaley, Co-Chairperson of the Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) Rocky Mountain Arsenal (RMA)
Date: July 16, 2001
This letter is to inform you, a resident of the far northern corridor as to the imminent dangers and difficulties that will affect your health and welfare in this far northeast corridor.
I have voiced many concerns about the contaminated dust, water and air Permeating this area of Denver. It has been ignored and has caused a punitive backlash to me and your other representative from the staff of the arsenal.
Commerce City, Brighton and other areas have been given millions of dollars of equipment and other incentives by Shell Oil Company and the Rocky Mountain Arsenal RMA (representing the Dept. of the Army/Department of Defense). Air Monitoring Equipment and Water Treatment Plants have been put in these cities to protect the residents. The most that The Montbello/Gateway/Green Valley Ranch areas have received is the 'Meet Montbello' annual event where the residents mingle around a hot-dog and drink. No preventative measures have been put in place for the Montbello area; only this 'Meet Montbello' RMA/Shell Oil public relations coup that is sponsored yearly. This event is an attempt to appease the Montbello area without puffing in place safety measures that will protect families. Many excuses are given as to this disparity such as the water runs towards Commerce City and away from the Montbello cited areas. We all know that this is ludicrous, since water goes here it will, not withstanding what snow and rain mn-off brings from the arsenal to the Montbello area.
Another problem exists which negatively impacts the health and welfare of the Montbello area. That problem exists where buried and contaminated ordinances still lie buried on the grounds of the RMA. The sites where this contaminated debris is buried lies near the residential areas of the Montbello area. There are no plans on the part of the RMA to rid the area of these dangerous ordinances.
I'm sure you have noticed large mounds of dirt along 56"' Ave. The RMA is moving soil without means to insure that the contanunated dust does not posit danger to the Montbello area.
I am informing all of the residents that this 'Meet Monthello Day' is only a cover-up for the lack of consideration and concern for the residents of the Moutbello area. Dangers against the health and welfare of all residents is present. The residents are bought off with a one day extravaganza while threats to their health is a daily and year around reality. The budget amount of the annual event is not shared with me, a representative, because it pales in contrast to the millions spent in other surrounding cities. I am concerned that the RMA see this event as the only means to assist the area and quiet down the concerned residents. Health and Welfare measures that have been taken in other areas such as Commerce City and Brighton as well as other areas are not put forth in the Montbello area. I feel strongly, as the co-chairperson of the RAB that I need your support and voice and clearing up this disparity that will affect our health long after the arsenal has completed its so-called clean-up effort.
Please contact me at (303) 373-2340 with your thoughts and concerns. I need your support, for they are attempting to silence our representation and voice on the RAB.
