I am sorry. The time is long past due in these United States of America when a statement like: "Don't berate Mr. O'Hara for his views. I hardly think they [Mr. O'Hara's remarks] are atypical and have heard them expressed time and time again as we consult on tough projects where support or opposition falls along tribal and non-tribal community lines. It took quite a few years of working in government before I fully appreciated the special relationship between the fed govt. and tribes. I guarantee 99% of the public outside govt. isn't aware of it." is an acceptable response to outright ignorance about the fact that Native Nations pre-date the Federal Government of this land and thereby have soverign authority. I guess you have to belong a Nation (call us Wendat, Huron, Wyandot or Wyandotte -- though scattered and slaughtered and slandered, we are still here!) like mine, which, as recently as the mid-1980's in the major Hollywood film entitle "Black Robe" left the audience with the distinct impression that we were EXTINCT -- to get down right offended. Mr. O'Hara (and all those other 99%) has homework to do and I wish he would do it in private, not on my time.
