  • X-topic: Local Issues/Superfund

I have enjoyed " listening in" on the EPA dialogue. I hope you are right in saying the interest has waned this week because the discussion is getting more technical. For myself however, I have this big credibility gap re: government ventures. I think of the superfund clean-up which is going nowhere, so I think that although the EPA has it's agenda and makes recommendations, there is only so much it can do, thinking of the supposed lack of funds to carry out the clean-up. I think much of the public is apathetic because we don't see the results of all the discussions. On the other hand, discussions are important and information to the public about issues should be given in a timely manner. Here in NM we tried to halt an energy company from coming in because of the water problems we have here. We were told we should have started a long time ago, but one can't start if one doesn't know what is happening. Public opinion was too late in this case. Community awareness is key, and one can't organize the public overnight. They need to be educated re: the issues.
