You are so right about politics getting in the way of public involvement.

Let me talk about the Plum Brook Ordnance Works Restoration Advisory Board of which I am Co-Chair. the group is "mothered" by the Huntington District Army Corps.

At the onset, it was apparent we were not a "normal" group. We came from a very diverse background, and many of us are professionals. I have been an environmental activist for years. We started the group with one simple mandate, no bullshit. We wanted good information, no inference, complete scientific data, and people around us from federal and state agencies that could share their knowledge and expertise with the group.

Those of us with technical knowledge always make sure that the entire group understands the presentations, and has their questions and concerns addressed fully.

As a result, we have a model RAB. Full disclosure with no politics. A trust relationship has formed between what used to be total strangers. We understand each other's goals and expectations and have formed complete mutual respect for each other.
