Steve Taylor noted on July 12 that EPA's databases are HORRIBLE. While I admit that we in Superfund do not at this point provide data integrated across other Agency program (a goal that we are all working toward), I would be interested in whether the Superfund site information is accessible and how we could improve it. The CERCLA Information System (CERCLIS) is the national database for Superfund site data. We provide an extract of information that is available under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) via the Superfund Web site at http://www.epa.gov/superfund .

If you want to locate a site and you know the name or if you want to quickly go to a site, you may want to use the Basic Query or the Advanced Query with links on the right side of the Superfund Home page. If you want to browse through sites by state and by county or city, you may want to go to the CERCLIS Hazardous Waste Sites at http://www.epa.gov/superfund/sites/cursites/index.htm , If you want to look at sites which have been evaluated and have "no further Federal remedial action planned" (NFRAP), you may want to go to the Archive (NFRAP) Sites at http://www.epa.gov/superfund/sites/arcsites/index.htm .

I welcome comments and suggestions.

Carolyn
