  • X-topic: Assistance

Hello all. My name is Jennifer Browne and I am the EPA national coordinator for the Technical Outreach Services for Communities (TOSC) program.

TOSC is a free, non-advocate, independent program designed to provide technical assistance to communities affected by hazardous substance contamination. The hope is this assistance will encourage meaningful public participation in the environmental cleanup and site reuse process. The program, funded through an EPA grant, is composed of university professors and professionals throughout the country. For more information about the program, including how to contact the TOSC near you, go to their website at http://www.toscprogram.org . You can also call them at one of the numbers listed at the end of this message (most are toll-free).

As FYI -- while TOSC cannot generate new information, if anyone would like to learn more about some academic research that is being done in the hazardous waste/contamination field, you may want to look at the website for the Hazardous Substance Research Centers website at http://www.hsrc.org . This university program is funded through EPA grants from the Office of Research and Development.

Peter Schlesinger - I was very happy to read about your positive experience with the TOSC advisors. However, to ensure that TOSC continues to provide good and meaningful assistance, I would love to have the opportunity to follow-up on some of the other issues you raised. If you would please contact me at browne.jennifer@epa.gov so we could discuss your experience in more detail, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, if there is anyone else who would like to tell me about your experiences with TOSC, please send me an e-mail and I will get back to you.

Thank you everyone!
Jennifer Browne
