The Joint Program Office (JPO) at the Mass. Military Reservation is in the middle of a long project working with the local libraries on Cape Cod that receive the Administrative Records from MMR. Up until now, each of the 4 local libraries got a copy of EVERYTHING that came out of the various projects here, whether it was relevant to that town or not. It became an unbearable burden for the libraries to handle the space and budgetary requirements, never mind the fact that none of the librarians knew anything about what was going on at the base in terms of where the information was coming from. To make a long story short, the end result of the project is to keep irrelevant information out of town libraries that don't need it via a protocol that everybody agrees on upfront, make as much information available electronically as possible, color code documents that come from different organizations, and educate the librarians on the cleanup at the base. It is hoped that after this is complete that the groundwork would have been laid for a MUCH easier to use and much more used Administrative Record. I might add that this is a pro-active effort on the part of the JPO.
