  • X-topic: Outreach

I just wanted to highlight an element in Dan's toolbox that is
important to not overlook. In order to identify "the public" or
"the community," it is important to remember "the public" and
especially "the community" do not come in a one-size fits-all
package. This is why we must LISTEN to leaders involved in
community decisions when we ask them what approaches of
involvement are most appropriate for their community. They will
have a much better idea if flyers, radio, mailings, TV, etc are
best for their situation than any of us outsiders. This can also
save a lot of time and more efficiently utilize often limited
available resources. As Peter Schlesinger stated, this needs to
be an iterative process of multiple strategies.
