I think the Air Force really tried to involve the public. It turned out that the RAB members pretty well were the public.

One reason few people get involved is that the issues and solutions are highly technical and most people do not understand them at all. Also, it is difficult to see much of a direct connection to our daily lives.

I do believe it is important to keep the clean-up process as open as possible even if there is not much evidence of public interest. The very fact that the process is open reassures the public that there is nothing to hide.
