  • X-topic: Outreach

I have been a member of the RAB for Homestead Air Force base in Dade County (Miami), Florida for the last 6 years or so. Public interest in this massive project has been minimal in spite of various efforts made by the Air Force. Contamination issues are very complex and few people understand the issues or have any way of gaging the potential impact on their own lives. There was little controversy about the base clean-up in Homestead. This was another reason public interest was minimal. I am not sure that it is a bad sign that the public appears to trust government to do the right thing concerning clean-up issues.
