Dear Andrea,

I am a student and live in the Sothwest Border region of El Paso/Ciudad Juarez...El Paso's air 'quality' gets worse every year...I live here and have seen it go from bad to worse. The Texas legislature does little to help us and we recieve little attention from the US government. I work with The Green Party of El Paso and have seen that the people of this area simply are not interested in their own health. It might have to do with the fact that the majority of the area is not well-educated (their concerns lie in feeding their families or buying into what they think is the American dream), newly immigrated (many cannot speak or read English), and lives at or below $18,000 a year (have less access to everything in general). In the borderland region...there are a variety of issues that have contributed to the environmental damage in this area. I think that in my specific area...we need to the government to take action and the grass roots groups to act as the negotiators. Reaching out to these groups is a noble idea, however...they have been extremely difficult to reach. Any suggestions?
