In response to Charles Ratliff's comment on the need for reciprocity and the "artificial separation in status of professional educators," I agree that a system needs to be developed that covers all of the various levels of teaching. In adult education, through a school district, a teacher must have a teaching credential acquired from the California Department of Education. Qualifications for the credential are standard and all applicants must meet this standard. Teachers must also pass the California Basic Educational Skills Test.

What teacher preparation programs are required to certify Community College teachers? It is our understanding that the Faculty Senate at each individual Community College site decides a teacher's qualifications for a position. Shouldn't there be one standard of teaching that governs all Community College sites?
