It is becoming increasingly clear that children participating in early childhood developement programs show higher academic achievement when they enter the K-12 system. Couple that with the fact that children whose parents are invovled in their schooling also do better and you have a recipe for parent cooperative preschools with a parent ed component. Under the adult schools, these parent cooperatives are affordable and located in community neighborhoods. Children AND their parents enter school english proficient and these parents who have run a cooperative, go on to become the leaders in the schools. It's ludicrous to think community colleges have the facilities to run such programs. These programs need to be affordable and within a neighborhood, preferably on an elementary school site.
