I hope I am not wearing out my welcome, but the whole question of preparation for college, and acceptance of transfer students brings to mind yet another adult education issue -- the extent to which we are allowed or encouraged to prepare adult learners for college in our programs. Testing on a national basis tends to be focused on 'lifeskills reading' rather than higher order thinking, reading and writing skills. Where are the AP courses in adult education? How can the rising standards for admission to the CSU and UC systems be translated into the standards of and support for adult education? This is a clearly a topic in which greater discussion is needed between adult secondary and regular secondary educators on the one hand, and between adult education and community colleges on the other.
