I need to correct Mr. Wurman's comment. Standardized testing does NOT measure what children know. It only measures what children DON'T know. And that is hardly educational
Regarding graduating requirements. To obtain a high school diploma, one should have to demonstrate competency in several areas, of course including math and literacy. These can be assessed by observing a student's reading level and ability to critically think.
Scantron cannot and should not replace a good teacher and intelligent parents.
