To snippet or not to snippet, that is...

Good point. In addition, readers can "get their bearings" by making frequent use of the "thread" link at the top or bottom of the messages. Clicking this link shows you the conversation in context and sequence; clicking the forward and back arrows provides that context even if a writer fails to include a snippet. ("Empowerment Threads" vs power dressing, so to speak.)
