Thank you very much for your posting.
Although I have a Masters degree and a couple of years in a PhD program, I've recently become concerned that in the rush to 'accountability' (and funding) our schools focus too much on the academic knowledge of the top 20-25% of students. Practical and life skills should be integrated across subjects particularly at the high school level. My high-school age son probably knows more about the human circulatory system than automobile braking systems, but I suspect the reverse would be more appropriate for him.
