The recommendations and comments for postsecondary professional development are excellent. I am especially impressed with Rec. #11, and the corresponding comments. Helping college professors to adopt effective pedagogy serves three important purposes:
1. helps them to teach their respective subjects more effectively;
2. serves as a model of most effective teaching for all their students (just in case they eventually find themselves in a teaching situation, formally or informally, which is far more common than most might realize;
3. possibly motivates students to go into education (at some level), once they experience truly inspired, dynamic, and passionate teaching, and probably adopt those features in their own teaching. Heaven knows we're going to need more teachers for a long time, especially more knowledgeable, effective, and dynamic teachers every student deserves.
