Well said, Sen. Vasconcellos. I am a school board member and have spent a great deal of time learning and reading about different learning styles, etc. I have come to the realization that the current (traditional) educational system cannot meet the needs of all learners. Alternatives need to be made available for individuals. Home study, individualized tutoring, mentoring (in secondary and postsecondary) and the education and involvement of the parents in the education of the child are examples.
Very little in the discussion threads I have read over the last two days has focused or spoken to the involvement and responsibility of the child's family. We need to engage the family in many circumstances or we will not see a child advance in their education (note many of the home school families that excel academically). All that to say that the "system" need to take into account the different needs of individual learners and the needs of the family.
