Standards adopted recently by California assures that
teachers will know what is expected of them, but doesn't
assure that all students will reach their highest levels of
achievement. It still takes imaginative, creative, and
sometimes inspired teaching to reach students who are not
always ready to learn. So a Master Plan must place
importance on the continuation of high quality professional
development opportunities (through grants and other
incentives) for teachers K-16. When teachers are renewed,
revitalized, and energized by material they can internalize,
then we have possibilities for success in classrooms.
There are such programs in place now--more need to be
created.
