  • Topic: Background

Good morning! I'm Trudy Schafer, the Program Director/Advocate (lobbyist) for the League of Women Voters of California. I've been a League member since 1978 and in 1992 joined the staff in our state office in Sacramento. As Info Ren was setting up this dialogue, we had some interesting conversations about the process of how the draft Master Plan has been developed and what will happen to it in the next months and years. This online dialogue is a great opportunity for us all to have a voice, and I hope participants will ask about public input received so far and how to get involved as the process goes on.

There are some upcoming legislative hearings and regional town hall meetings scheduled for more public input. Go to http://www.sen.ca.gov/ftp/SEN/COMMITTEE/JOINT/MASTER_PLAN/_home/hearing.htp to see a list.

Two of the hearings are coming up immediately:

1) "Access" in the Master Plan, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. today (June 3) in room 112 of the state Capitol, and

2) "Achievement" and "Accountability" in the Plan, on Wednesday, June 5, in room 437 of the Capitol at 2:30 (or upon adjournment of the committee using the room before that).
