Week One: Question 1 - One or two most pressing needs of my library for implementing effective & sustainable telecomunications programs: 1) $$$$ for purchase of equipment and training of staff 2) expertise on the infrastructure and equipment - The school district, university, and community network have salaried positions but all are so overworked - the public library doesn't know who to turn to when there are equipment failures. Question 2 - How do needs of schools and libraries differ and how are they complementary: Schools have tax $$$$ for technology implementation. Our school district demonstrated one school connected to another school 15 miles down the road via satelite downlink so each school could share a guest speaker. While the public library begs for $$$$ to buy even one computer with modem or nic card to access the Internet for individual patrons who walk in off the street. Linked together we could share many cooperative ventures and broaden our county residents' access to information. Question 3 - How do rural schools & libraries differ from urban: Rural areas need $$$$ and a greater need for technology while the urban areas have more resources at a closer proximity.
